Mississippi St. Comes Back with 6-Spot in 8th

The Mississippi State Bulldogs came down from a 4-0 deficit in the 8th inning to take a 6-4 lead and hung on for a 6-5 winner’s bracket victory over the Virginia Cavaliers. On Friday, they will face the winner of the Thursday night contest between Virginia and the Texas Longhorns.

Wolfpack Awaits Survivor of Stanford/ Vanderbilt

The North Carolina State Wolfpack diamond crew rode the arms of Sam Highfill and Evan Justice to a 1-0 shutout victory of the Vanderbilt Commodores to remain in the winner’s bracket in the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. They await the winner of the Wednesday night matchup between Vanderbilt and the Stanford Cardinal, who eliminated the Arizona Wildcats on Monday afternoon by a tally of 14-5.

‘Dores, Wolfpack, Cavaliers, Bulldogs in CWS Winners Bracket

After the first round of College World Series competition in Omaha, Nebraska the winner’s bracket consists of the Vanderbilt Commodores, North Carolina State Wolfpack, Virginia Cavaliers, and Mississippi State Bulldogs. On Monday afternoon, the Stanford Cardinal and Arizona Wildcats will pair off in a loser’s bracket elimination game. The winner will face the loser of the winner’s bracket affair between the Vanderbilt Commodores and the North Carolina State Wolfpack that will take place on Monday evening. On Tuesday afternoon, the Texas Longhorns and Tennessee Volunteers will compete in an elimination game. The winner of this contest will move on to compete against the loser of the Tuesday evening winner’s bracket battle between the Mississippi St. Bulldogs and the Virginia Cavaliers.

Vandy Boys Rock Along

Although their offensive output was limited against East Carolina, a little bit of smallball was enough to edge the Vanderbilt Commodores past the Pirates in the first game of a best of three series. Kumar Rocker pitched 7 2/3 innings of shutout baseball, and Nick Maldonado finished the job for the final inning and a third, as they posted a 2-0 win.

Drew Gilbert’s rocket shot put joy in the hearts of the Rocky Top faithful on Friday night, as his mountain blast gave the Tennessee Volunteers a 9-8 walk off victory.
