The Florida State Lady Seminoles captured their first ever title in the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma with a game two 8-3 win over the Washington Lady Huskies for a sweep in the best of three series. The Lady ‘Noles had won game one by a score of 1-0.
For the first time ever, the Florida Gators became kings of the collegiate baseball diamond, joining the back to back champion Oklahoma Lady Sooners, who were repeat champions in softball this season. The Gators swept the LSU Tigers in two games to capture their first ever College World Series title.
Rack up another national title by an SEC School as the Lady Gators from Florida won the Women’s College World Series Title. Senior right-handed pitcher Hannah Rogers did not start Tuesday night’s game for the Florida Gators, but her steady hand and tremendous command closed out the final two innings of the Women’s College World Series Championship Series, helping Florida softball (55-12) earn the first National Championship in program history on the back of a 6-3 win over the Alabama Crimson Tide (53-13). According to OnlyGators.com Florida outscored its opponents 81-10 in the 2014 NCAA Tournament with eight shutouts and six run-rule victories.
Three SEC softball teams advanced in the NCAA Super Regionals to the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City on Sunday, as Florida beat Washington by a score of 8-0, while Kentucky won a pair on Sunday against UCLA 7-3 and 7-1 to reach the promised land of college softball. The two squads join the Lady Crimson Tide of Alabama in Oklahoma City to give this year’s tournament a definite SEC flavor.
Tennessee evened the series at 1-1 with a 4-0 over the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday afternoon, while the Florida Gators took a 1-0 series lead over Washington, and the Kentucky Lady Wildcats dropped the first game of their three game series to the UCLA Bruins in SEC Softball action in The NCAA Tournament. The Alabama Lady Tide already clinched a spot in the College World Series, while the Georgia Lady Bulldogs dropped game 2 to Baylor and were eliminated from contention.

Sophomore Lexi Overstreet hit a two-run homer and senior Ellen Renfroe struck out 10 over seven shutout frames to power No. 10 seed Tennessee to a 2-0 victory over Lipscomb in Game 6 of the Knoxville Regional to advances the NCAA Super Regionals for the seventh time in program history. Tennessee will make its seventh trip to NCAA Super Regionals.

The Lady Vols have advanced to the Women’s College World Series in each of their previous six trips to Super Regionals. This year’s trip to Norman marks UT’s third road Super Regional after winning the 2005 Palo Alto Super Regional and the 2010 Ann Arbor Super Regional, going 2-0 in both. Tennessee’s all-time record in Super Regionals is 12-3.
The Tennessee Lady Volunteers softball team is one step from participating in the Super Regionals once again, where they have never lost a series. Setting a Tennessee record for most home runs in a single game, the No. 10 national seed Lady Vols crushed six home runs to defeat Virginia Tech, 12-0 (5), on Saturday afternoon in Game 4 of the Knoxville Regional. All that stands in their way now are the Lady Bisons from David Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee. The Lady Vols will face them on Sunday afternoon. If Lipscomb were to win, then the Lady Vols and Lady Bisons would face off one more time to determine which team advances to the Super-Regional round.
